Bill Caption

Relating to information regarding certain noncompliance by an appraisal district in the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records of a professional property tax appraiser serving as chief appraiser for the district.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 916 would require the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to provide a link, on each biennial report of an appraisal district's performance review, to the comptroller's report for the review and each property value study the comptroller conducted on the study of school district property values. Districts would be allowed to request information on a registered professional appraiser whom a board is considering for appointment as a chief appraiser of the appraisal district.

Vote Recommendation Notes

SB 916 may help appraisal districts fill an open chief appraiser position with a better qualified candidate than perhaps they may otherwise, but this does not weigh on our liberty principles either way. Texas Action remains neutral.
