Bill Caption

Relating to the purchase of iron and steel products made in the United States for certain projects by public institutions of higher education.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 783 would expand the "Buy America" program by requiring public institutions of higher education to only use iron and steel products that are made in the United States in construction projects.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Without weighing in on the merits of the Buy America program itself which is not up for consideration in this legislation, adding public institutions of higher education to the list of government entities subject to the provisions of the program does not weigh on our principles. For this reason we remain neutral on SB 783.
