Relating to the transfer of the regulation of racing to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the abolishment of the Texas Racing Commission, and the creation of the Texas Racing Advisory Board, following recommendations of the Sunset Advisory Commission.

Fiscal Notes

The fiscal implications of this bill cannot be determined at this time due to the savings from the efficiencies resulting from administratively attaching the Texas Racing Commission to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation being unknown.

Bill Analysis

SB 704 would abolish the Texas Racing Commission and transfer its functions to the Comptroller of Public Accounts. The bill would create the Texas Racing Advisory Board to advise the Comptroller with respect to pari-mutuel racing issues. Other conforming provisions would be made, including implementation a number of good government recommendations by the Sunset Advisory Commission.
