Relating to Medicaid coverage of certain collaborative care management services.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 672 requires medical assistance reimbursement be provided to a health care provider who participates in Medicaid for treating a child or adult medical assistance recipient for behavioral health services classified as collaborative care management services.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Collaborative care management is a care model that involves regular/proactive monitoring and psychiatric review to address chronic issues such as anxiety and depression. More than 70 randomized controlled trials have shown collaborative care for these kinds of disorders to be more effective and cost-effective than usual care. This is beneficial for the free market and personal responsibility for participants in Medicaid. Texas Action supports SB 672 because it grants individuals greater control over their healthcare.
