Bill Analysis

SB 526 would require Water Control Improvement Districts, Fresh Water Supply Districts, Municipal Utility Districts, or Water Improvement Districts that have a population over 500, and ad valorem tax and gross receipts over $250,000 to make the following information available on a website:

Unless a suitable location is not available within the district, board meetings held by these special utility districts would be required to be held within the district. 

A board of a rural area district would be required to hold at least one meeting per quarter within 10 miles of the district unless it is not practical.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports SB 526 on the principle of limited government. The bill allows for more government transparency and opportunity for residents to participate in local government affairs.
