Bill Caption

Relating to the use of certain data collected by the Texas Workforce Commission to determine general prevailing wage rates for certain public work contracts.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 518 would allow projects in counties with a population of not more than one million to use data compiled by the Texas Workforce Commission’s Labor Market and Career Information Department to determine the prevailing wages of public work contracts. This state data would only be able to be used if there was no data available through the Office of Management and Budget in the Standard Occupational Classification system.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports SB 518 as it could lead to savings for taxpayers by reducing the cost of public works projects.
