Relating to the student union fee at the University of Houston.

Bill Analysis

SB 480 would allow the University of Houston to use an assessed student union fee for the purpose of "providing programming" in addition to existing uses of funds generated by the fee.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is opposed to SB 480 because it violates the principles of individual liberty and limited government. University students already pay outrageous tuition and fees. Expanding the use of this fee will almost certainly lead to future calls to increase the amount of the fee. Universities should be trying to decrease costs for students, not nickel and diming them at every turn.
