Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 26 would prohibit a government agency or public official from issuing an order that closes or has the effect of closing a place of worship. The bill also provides a defense for individuals whose free exercise of religion has been infringed in violation of the bill's prohibition.

Vote Recommendation Notes

SB 26 uplifts the First Amendment which expressly prohibits government from interfering in the free exercise of religion. Texas Action supports SB 26 because it promotes the principles of limited government and individual liberty.
