Bill Caption

Relating to the continuing education requirement for county commissioners.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 230 would update the current statute mandating county commissioners attend classroom training for their continuing education requirements and would now allow county commissioners to utilize online classes to fulfill their annual training requirements. An exception would be made for first term commissioners during the first 12 months of their term. Such commissioners would still be required to take complete their instruction in person.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Giving commissioners greater accessibility to the resources they need to fulfill a mandated training requirement promotes the principles of personal responsibility and individual liberty. Texas Action supports SB 230.
