Bill Analysis

SB 1847 would allow nurse aides who worked or are working under a temporary waiver in a nursing facility that provided services during the coronavirus disease pandemic to substitute certain hours worked for the classroom or clinical training hours required by the Nurse Aide Training programs.

Vote Recommendation Notes

SB 1847 would allow temporary nurse aides who worked during the COVID 19 pandemic to substitute working hours for required classroom hours. SB 1847 would effectively allow nurse aids to use real-world experience, where they learn firsthand the tools and tricks of their profession, as a portion of their certification requirement. SB 1847 benefits the principles of individual liberty, personal responsibility, and limited government.

We encourage the legislature to make similar allowances for other professions which require licensing or certification.
