Relating to the numbering and signing of ballots by early voting clerks and deputy early voting clerks.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 1572 would require the deputy early voting clerkâs signature or initials on the back of early in-person ballots. Automated signatures would not count towards this requirement. Any unsigned ballots could not be made available to voters. The secretary of state would not be allowed to modify or waive the requirements of this bill.
Texas Action supports SB 1572 which would espouse the limited government and individual liberty principles by enacting additional security to Texas' elections. It would improve ballot chain of custody by requiring early votes be signed by a deputy early voting clerk and prevent the secretary of state from modifying or waiving these rules.
