Relating to the donation of food by public school campuses.

Bill Analysis

SB 1351 would alter the process by which a public school may donate surplus food to a nonprofit organization for redistribution on the school's campus. Rather than food being donated through an official of the nonprofit organization, it would be donated through an official affiliated with the campus or parent of a student of the campus. Additionally, the bill would revise the types and source of food which may be donated. Requirements would be added with respect to the donation of foods subject to time and temperature control for food safety.

Vote Recommendation Notes

The updates this bill proposes to public school surplus food donation protocols do not appear to affect our liberty principles, therefore Texas Action remains neutral on SB 1351.
