Bill Analysis

SB 1234 would require that a voting system used in an election be an auditable voting system; using a paper record or producing a paper receipt by which a voter can verify their ballot is counted accurately. A paper record or a receipt copy is the official record of the vote cast for purposes of recounts.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Requiring a paper record of ballots would help to reduce the risk of fraud and protects the value of each legitimate vote from being devalued and diluted by illegitimately cast ballots. For these reasons, Texas Action supports SB 1234.
