Bill Caption

Relating to a county, city, or independent school district posting election results on an Internet website.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 1116 would require a county, city, or independent school district that holds an election and maintains a website to publicly post the results of each election, including the total number of votes cast, and the total number of votes cast for each candidate or for or against each measure.

This information would have to be posted as soon as practicable after the election and would have to be accessible by the public without having to make more than two selections or view more than two network locations after accessing the county, city, or district website.

Vote Recommendation Notes

SB 1116 would provide greater accessibility to local election result information thereby increasing government transparency. Transparency in government is a criteria for limited government, therefore, Texas Action supports SB 1116.
