Bill Caption

Relating to a progressive disciplinary matrix for police officer misconduct in certain municipalities.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 829 would establish a progressive disciplinary model for all law enforcement agencies to comply with in their disciplinary action against peace officers.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is opposed to HB 829 on the principle of limited government. Review boards of individual law enforcement agencies are responsible for the disciplinary action taken against peace officers. State-wide models for disciplinary action will be ill-suited for individual police departments.
