Bill Caption

Relating to the designation of highway safety corridors; increasing a fine.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 795 would have the Department of Transportation designate "safety corridors" on highways with a high number of traffic fatalities, as identified by the governing body of the municipality or county.

The minimum and maximum fine is doubled when the offense is committed inside a highway safety corridor.

Vote Recommendation Notes

HB 795 would be further restricting drivers in Texas by threatening large fines. It is important for drivers to understand the safety in driving in certain areas, but to further increase fines and further increase the number of "safety corridors," leads to more fines for everyday drivers and yet another government overreach.

Texas Action opposes HB 795.
