Bill Caption

Relating to the carrying and possession of a handgun by a public junior college school marshal.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 781 would update statute with respect to public junior college school marshals, including prohibiting the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement from requiring a public junior college school marshal to store the handgun in a locked container while on duty.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 781 on the principles of limited government, individual liberty, and personal responsibility. Requiring a school marshal to keep a handgun locked away while on duty defeats the purpose of having a school marshal by significantly reducing response time. HB 781 would help make the campus environment at public junior colleges more safe and secure.
