Relating to the establishment of a bone marrow donor recruitment program.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated
HB 780 requires the Health and Human Services commission to establish a bone marrow donor recruitment program to educate residents of this state about its need, the requirements for registration with the federally authorized registry, the medical procedures involved, and the availability of information about bone marrow donation.
HB 780 would then require the Department of Public Safety, in consultation with the federal authorized registry, to develop written and electronic informational materials on bone marrow donation to each person applying for or renewing a driver's license. The federal bone registry would be allowed to provide these informational materials.
HB 780 would require DPS to post such information on each agency's website. Appropriate health care facilities, blood banks, and driver's license offices would be able to access these materials and DPS shall print such materials to place in their facilities for the public.
