Bill Caption

Relating to the eligibility of certain children who are or were in foster care for free prekindergarten programs in public schools.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 725 would allow children who were part of a foster care system in another state but now reside in Texas to enroll for free in publicly funded prekindergarten programs.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral on HB 725. While we generally are opposed to the expansion of publicly funded prekindergarten, this minor expansion of eligibility is probably not a significant enough expansion to increase costs to taxpayers and it is essentially within the spirit of the purpose of current eligibility parameters.
