Bill Caption

Relating to notice of a modification to the medical certification information on a death certificate.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 723 would require, for a death certificate that is not pending, a person who submits to the Department of State Health Services a request for a death certificate amendment to modify the medical certification information on the certificate to provide written notice of the modification to a decedent's next of kin.

Vote Recommendation Notes

While it is clearly a good policy to notify a decedent's next of kin if cause of death is changed on a death certificate, this policy does not appear to weigh on our liberty principles. For this reason we remain neutral on HB 723.
