Bill Analysis

HB 611 would require the voter assistant oath add a line affirming the voter assistant did not pressure or intimidate a voter to ask for their assistance, under penalty of perjury.  The bill would make a violation of the oath a Class A misdemeanor offense, unless a person has also made three or more false statements regarding any election in a four year period, in those circumstances the punishment would be a state jail felony offense.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 611 which would help to deter instances of "improper voter assistance" to the extent that such instances may be a problem.
