Bill Analysis

Current law only allows counties with a population over 3 million to use someone other than a peace officer to advertise and conduct sales of personal property seized under tax warrant in person and by online auction. HB 533 would remove the bracketing language in order to allow all Texas counties to contract with someone other than a peace officer to conduct auction tax sales, including online auction tax sales.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral on HB 533. The form or method of conducting auction tax sales does not affect our liberty principles.
