Relating to the number, terms, and compensation of the commissioners of the Nueces County Drainage and Conservation District Number 2.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 4621 would require that the Nueces County Drainage and Conservation District Number 2 be governed by a board of three Commissioners serving staggered four-year terms, unless, under a resolution adopted by a vote of a majority of commissioners, the number of commissioners may increase to five. This bill would also increase the maximum monthly compensation limit from $500 to $1600 and clarify that benefits are not included in the compensation limit.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action opposes HB 4621. In effect, the current board would be allowed to increase its size and receive a higher monthly compensation without any input from constituents. This violates the principles of limited government and individual liberty.
