Bill Analysis

HB 4300 would require that, by November 1 of each even-numbered year, the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement submit a report regarding peace officer salaries in this state to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, and each standing committee of the legislature with primary jurisdiction over the commission. The report would include 1) salary information categorized by law enforcement agency size, based on the population residing in the agency’s jurisdiction, and 2) for certain categories, a comparison of officer salaries to cost of living and officer salaries in this state to officer salaries in other states.
