Relating to certain notifications required following a breach of security of computerized data.

HB 3746 would require the attorney general to post on its website a comprehensive listing of the notifications reported to the AG's office regarding data breaches that affect at least 250 residents of Texas.
The notifications reported to the AG would also be required to include the number of affected residents that have been sent a disclosure of the breach by direct communication.
The AG would be required to update the listing no later than 30 days after receiving a notification, remove a listing after a year if there are no notifications of further breaches, and maintain only the most recently updated listing.
Texas Action supports HB 3746 because it espouses the individual liberty principle. The bill would improve transparency regarding data breaches and how the breaches are reported to the Attorney General, allowing Texans to better stay informed when or if their sensitive data was exposed in data breach.
