HB 3557 would allow parents or legal guardians to elect for their children to repeat a school grade or course under certain qualifying conditions to ensure that students are adequately prepared to move on to the next grade level.

Texas Action supports HB 3557 on the principles of individual liberty and limited government. Allowing parents the freedom to exercise control over their child's advancement as proposed by this bill would help ensure the students are truly ready for progression.
