Bill Analysis

Under current law, state agencies must file quarterly reports regarding their vehicle fleets. HB 3388 would exempt a state agency with a fleet of more than 2,500 vehicles from quarterly reporting and instead require such an agency to establish and maintain an annual reporting system.

According to the Legislative Budget Board "Currently, there are four agencies that maintain a vehicle fleet of more than 2,500 vehicles, including the Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), Department of Public Safety (DPS), Department of Transportation  (TxDOT), and Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 3388 as it eases the administrative burden on agencies with large vehicle fleets without reducing transparency. This would eliminate unnecessary time spent on quarterly reporting for agencies to which this bill would apply.
