Bill Analysis

HB 3250 would require that a residential property insurance policy that includes coverage for additional living expenses must cover the additional living expenses incurred by an insured in the event the insured property is uninhabitable due to a stoppage of water, electricity, sewer, or natural gas services for a period of at least 24 hours. Coverage required by this bill would begin not less than a day after a stoppage of the water, electricity, sewer, or natural gas service.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action opposes HB 3250 because it violates the limited government and free market principles. This bill would create a state mandate on residential insurance in a way that would distort the market and almost certainly result in an increase in insurance rates.
