Bill Caption

Relating to health benefit coverage for certain fertility preservation services under certain health benefit plans.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 293 would require a health benefit plan to provide coverage for fertility preservation services to a covered person who will receive a medically necessary treatment that may directly or indirectly cause impaired fertility.  This bill would not apply to all health types plans.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action opposes HB 293 because it violates the limited government and free market principles. While we deeply sympathize with people the bill is intended to help, it is not the proper role of the state to add new mandates to health benefit providers. Such mandates ultimately increase the cost of health insurance and healthcare for everyone.
