Bill Analysis

HB 2748 would change the population brackets of municipalities that would be eligible to allow peace officers to apply for certification to enforce commercial motor vehicle safety standards. The new bracket would apply to a municipality that has a population between 32,000 and 50,000 if that municipality is located entirely in a county that has a population of less than 250,000, is adjacent to two counties that each have a population of more than 1.2 million, and contains two highways that are part of the national system of interstate and defense highways.

This bill is bracketed for Waxahachie, although Midlothian will probably grow into the bracket before too long as well.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral on HB 2748 as it does not pertain to our liberty principles.
