Bill Caption

Relating to the tracking and analysis of evidence of a sexual assault or other sex offense, to noncompliance with requirements imposed with respect to that evidence, and to other law enforcement procedures occurring with respect to a sexual offense.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 2555 would require that the state-wide tracking system for reports of sexual assault include all evidence collected in relation to a sexual assault or other sex offense, regardless of whether evidence of the offense is collected in relation to an individual who is alive or not. The bill also requires that the Department of Public Safety submit a report to the legislature and leadership identifying the number of evidence collection kits that have not yet been submitted for analysis or have not yet been completed.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral toward HB 2555.
