Bill Caption

Relating to allowing certain counties to cease operation of a juvenile justice alternative education program.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 2295 would permit the Commissioners Court of a county with at least 3.3 million people to hold an election to cease the operation of their juvenile justice alternative education program because it is no longer necessary or cost-effective. The bill is bracketed to Harris County.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 2295 because it would advance limited government. While juvenile justice alternative education might be good policy, counties should be free to eliminate their programs if they deem it necessary.
