Relating to the carrying of holstered handguns by handgun license holders.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Current statute restricts the lawful carry of a handgun to a shoulder or belt holster. There are many different types of secure holsters a person may wish to use which do not qualify as a shoulder or belt holster. In recognition of this fact, HB 2112 would strike the words "shoulder or belt" in various sections of code so that people may lawfully carry a handgun using any manner of holster.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 2112 on the principles of limited government, personal responsibility, and individual liberty. The government should not dictate what style of holster an individual uses to carry a handgun. HB 2112 rightly allows a person to carry in a way that is secure, but best fits their needs.
