Bill Analysis

HB 2025 would extend the 2010 census statutory population brackets until September 1, 2023.  The aim of the bill is provide a transition period for statutory population brackets since the 2020 census was delayed.  HB 2025 would specify that nothing in the bill prevents the Legislature from acting upon the census report and that, notwithstanding any other law, a commissioner court can act on published census reports to establish or change electoral precincts regardless of when the census report is released.

As this bill does not pertain to the liberty principles, Texas Action is neutral on HB 2025.
