Bill Caption

Relating to emergency refills of insulin and insulin-related equipment or supplies.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

H.B. 1935 would expand the ability of pharmacists to use their good judgement to issue the lesser of a 30-day supply or smallest available package of insulin or insulin-related equipment as an emergency supply. This would be done without the authorization of the prescribing doctor so long as certain conditions are satisfied. The bill would also require health insurance providers to cover emergency supplies of insulin under diabetes coverage.

Vote Recommendation Notes

HB 1935 supports the principles of individual liberty, and limited government. HB 1935 allows pharmacists to use their judgment to provide an emergency supply of diabetic medication. This is a limited supply that still requires the patient to return to their physician and refill their prescription and can help an individual in the case of a mistake, accident or other problem that can occur with a prescription.
