Relating to paid leave for public officers and employees engaged in certain military services.

HB 1589 would expand the number of paid absence days for public officers or employees who are members of the Texas military forces, a reserve component of the armed forces,
or a member of a state or federally authorized urban search and rescue team who are called to active duty by the governor or other appropriate authority in response to a disaster. Under the provisions of this bill such employees would be granted paid leave of absence for each day they are called to active duty during the disaster, not to exceed seven days. During a leave of absence under the provisions of this bill, the person may not be subjected to loss of time, efficiency rating, personal time, sick leave, or vacation time.
