Bill Caption

Relating to treatment of a patient by a physical therapist without a referral.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1363 would allow a certified physical therapist with a doctoral degree, who has either completed a residency or is certified by an entity approved by the board, to treat a patient for not more than 15 consecutive business days.

Vote Recommendation Notes

HB 1363 amends current law to recognize the professional nature of physical therapists who have a PhD by allowing them to be certified to treat a patient for 15 days. This extends the ability of physical therapists to treat their patients and allows patients to be treated for longer by a physical therapist. HB 1363 therefore benefits the principles of individual liberty, personal responsibility, and limited government.  Texas Action supports HB 1363.
