Bill Analysis

HB 1307 would require the Texas Department of Criminal Justice or a county sheriff, promptly upon receiving a report of a miscarriage or the physical abuse of a pregnant inmate, to ensure that a health care professional reviews the services provided to the inmate and orders additional services as deemed appropriate.

Texas Action supports HB 1307. The state has a responsibility to appropriately see to the care of people it confines or holds in custody. The provisions of this bill are consistent with the responsibilities and duties appropriate to a limited government.
