Bill Caption

Relating to the participation of eligible nonprofit organizations in the Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) Grant program.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 756 would allow certain qualifying nonprofit organizations to be eligible to receive grants through the Jobs and Education for Texans Grant Program for the development, support, or expansion of programs to prepare low-income students for careers in high-demand occupations.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral on SB 756 which makes changes to an existing grant program by allowing qualifying nonprofit organizations to assist in fulfilling the mission of the program. While we are skeptical of the role of the state in administering these programs with taxpayer dollars, the program already exists and this bill does not increase the cost of the program. For these reasons we remain neutral.
