Bill Caption

Relating to the continuation and functions of the School Land Board.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This is the sunset bill for the State Land Board (SLB). The bill would continue the functions of the SLB and set the next sunset review for 2031.

SB 608 would revise the makeup of the SLB, including adding to the number of governor-appointed citizens of the state who would be on the board & setting forth the process for selecting those nominees.

SB 608 would require an annual joint meeting between the State Board of Education and School Land Board to discuss the investment and allocation of the assets of the permanent school fund. Also, the SLB would develop and implement policies that clearly separate the policymaking responsibilities of the SLB and the management responsibilities of the commissioner and staff of the land office. The SLB would be required to maintain a system to act on complaints filed.
