Bill Caption
Relating to the training of peace officers for family violence and sexual assault assignments.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
SB 586 would require peace officers to be trained once every 48 months on recognition, documentation,
and investigation of cases that involve child abuse or neglect,
family violence, and sexual assault. The training would include the best
practices and trauma-informed techniques to effectively recognize,
document, and investigate those cases. The bill would also require minimum requirements for the training, testing and certification of special officers who respond to allegations of family violence or sexual assault. Officers would be able to earn a certification as a special officer if they complete an advanced training course and pass an exam which tests their recognition of signs of family violence and their skill at documenting and investigating family violence.
