Bill Caption

Relating to the authority of general-law municipalities to impose term limits on the members of their governing bodies.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 452 would allow the governing body of a general-law municipality to order an election to impose, amend, or repeal municipal term limits.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action remains neutral on SB 452 because it does not affect our liberty principles. While we generally view the electoral process as a check on term limits for public officials, general-law municipalities should be given the option of imposing, amending, or repealing term limits within that municipality.
