employ security personnel, commission peace officers, and have
school resource officers.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
SB 372 would allow open-enrollment charter schools to employ security personnel or commission peace officers in the same manner as a board of trustees of a school district. The bill would also allow open-enrollment charter schools to reach a memorandum of understanding with local police departments for them to assign a school resource officer.
Vote Recommendation Notes
Texas Action supports SB 372 because it promotes limited government. Schools are responsible for the safety of their students and faculty and it is the a legitimate function of a limited government to ensure that they carry out that duty.
