Bill Analysis

SB 2485 would prevent a political subdivision from adopting or enforcing any ordinance, order, rule, regulation, or policy regulating a private employer's terms of employment relating to employment benefits, including health, disability, retirement, profit-sharing, death, and group accidental death and dismemberment benefits. Any ordinance, order, rule, regulation, or policy to the contrary would be void and unenforceable.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports SB 2485 as it advances the principle of free market, individual liberty and limited government. It is improper for political subdivisions to interfere with a contract between the employee and employer. These regulations also reduce job opportunity and economic growth.
