According to the Legislative Budget Board, no significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
SB 244 removes regulations on public schools, open-enrollment charter schools, and private schools that limit the amount of school marshals they can have on campus, changing the law to allow one or more on each campus. Current law limits public schools to one marshal per 350 students and private schools to one marshal per 250 students, or one for each building on campus that students regularly use.
Vote Recommendation Notes
Texas Action recommends supporting SB 244 because it promotes limited government. SB 244 would remove government restrictions to how many school marshals a school can hire, and give governing boards the power to determine what is in the best interest of their district.
