Bill Analysis

SB 2244 would allow students to enroll into courses on the state virtual school network. The bill would remove fees and certain restrictions on students. This bill would also establish a study on the effectiveness of digital learning in public schools and the partnerships between school districts and open enrollment charter schools that would be providing these services.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action recommends supporting SB 2244 because it promotes our principles of personal responsibility, individual liberty, and limited government. Removing barriers of entry to online courses for students promotes personal responsibility and individual liberty. Conducting a study on the effectiveness of the virtual school network overall would be beneficial for limited government.
