Bill Caption
Relating to waiving the fee for the issuance of a duplicate,
modified, or renewed license to carry a handgun for school
marshals.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
SB 193 would waive fees for the issuance of a duplicate, modified, or renewed license to carry a handgun for school marshals. The applicant for the waiver must be an active school marshal and must also have a current license to carry a handgun.
Vote Recommendation Notes
Texas Action remains neutral on SB 193. We generally oppose fee exemptions since it creates a preferred class while leaving others to pay full price, but we support promoting school safety by reducing barriers for armed school marshals. We recommend an amendment to remove carry application fees altogether.
