Bill Analysis

SB 1879 would require the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement to develop a basic training program for the use of firearms by county jailers. The training would cover legal limitations on the use of firearms and the powers and authority of jailers; range firing and procedure; firearms safety and maintenance; and other topics determined by the Commission to be necessary for the responsible use of firearms by jailers.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral on SB 1879 as it neither advances nor hinders any of our liberty principles, however, to the extent that this training is needed this is appears to be good public policy.
