Relating to municipal registration of vacant buildings.

Bill Analysis

SB 1572 would allow bracketed cities in a county with a population between 285,000 and 300,000 and which borders the Gulf of Mexico to adopt an ordinance that allows (but does not require) owners of vacant buildings to register their buildings by filing a registration form with the municipality. A municipality that adopts such an ordinance would not be allowed to place a lien on a property solely because the property is registered under the provisions of this subsection, and the subsection may not be construed to grant a municipality authority other than the authority to adopt an ordinance as described above.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action remains neutral on SB 1572 because it does not affect our liberty principles.
