Bill Caption

Relating to providing certain public and private school administrators with information regarding certain child abuse and neglect investigations and allegations.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 1231 would require that the Department of Family and Protective Services notify the director of an open-enrollment charter school, or the chief administrative officer of a private school, if an employee is being investigated for alleged child abuse or neglect. Current law does not require that investigative reports be provided to the private school administration like it does for public school administration.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action recommends supporting SB 1231 because it promotes our principle of limited government. This bill requires DFPS to notify a private school if they are investigating one of their employees, giving schoolchildren the same protection that public schoolchildren have as DFPS already notifies public schools.
